AKIF SADIGOV
Akif Sadigov who is born in Tovuz province of Azerbaijan in 1951, has been graduated from Polytechnic University as a civil engineer besides his musical education about «tar» at music school. He worked as a tar teacher at school after graduation. A.Sadigov moved to Turkey with his family in 1995 and started working as a teacher in I.T.U. Traditional Turkish Music State Conservatory. He participated in a variety of concerts, activities, radio and TV program with Istanbul Caucasian Dance Group as a tar player.
TAR
Tar is an Azerbaijan musical instrument played with plectrum. It is an 11 string instrument that consists of two pear-shaped trunkol covered with fish- skin or cowheart membrane, a 22 fret neck and a head where the tuning wrenches are placed. The trunk is usually made of mulberry and the neck is made of walnut tree. Although tar is a national instrument of Azerbaijan, it is widely spread in Turkey, Iran, Middle Asia and Georgia.

In 193-`s group of in Azerbaijan who wanted to accept western musical system as it is, brought about an idea about putting away tar and other national musical instruments and using western instruments instead. Among famous and talented composers, Uzeyir Hadjibekov reorganized the frets of tar so that it could play either western or eastern music. Seid Rustemov has put an and to this discussion by composing, the music for Mikael Mushvig`s poem called “Oku, Tar! / Sign Tar!”.
